The project of "Protection and preservation of Cieszyn’s writing heritage", aimed at comprehensive protection of historical book collections in Cieszyn and expanding circulation of the writings for general scientific research, will include participation of five institutions, namely: Cieszyn’s Main Historical Library, Cieszyn's Branch of the State Archive of Katowice, Museum of Cieszyn Silesia, Cieszyn's Assembly of the Merciful Brothers’ Order and the local Evangelical-Augsburg Parish Church. The project with the total value of EUR 2 027 185 has been supported by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage grants. It will be completed in years 2007-2010. Cieszyn’s Main Historical Library, the largest of all participating units, assumed the role of the general project leader. At the same time, the Historical Library is one of the project beneficiaries, through the operations, which are directly associated with its collections. The operations cover a large range and include construction works, equipment upgrades, compiling of the most valuable collection sections, conversion to digital formats and preservation of selected items. The total cost of such activities is PLN 3 276 136, which constitutes 42% of the total project value. This site allows the visitors to review the status of Library’s activities, respective objectives, sources, financing structure and operating results. Description of the existing situation, prior to project implementation, can be found here as well.
